Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has launched a lottery scheme for 2030 flats. Under this scheme, Mhada has provided the facility to apply and participate in the lottery itself on the website. However, fraudsters have started taking undue advantage of this facility. Fraudsters have created another website similar to Mhada’s website and are duping people who visit this website by mistake of at least 50 thousand rupees as security money.
After getting the information about this, Mhada officials have filed a complaint in cyber cell. Based on the complaint, the Mumbai Police has registered a case against unknown fraudsters and started investigation into the matter. According to Mhada officials, the official website of the department is https://mhada.gov.in. According to Mhada CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, the application for flats will be filed through the website itself. However, no security amount is required while applying.
Fraud by the same site
While another similar fake website has been created, it is called mhada.org. 50 thousand rupees is deposited as security while applying on this website. According to the CEO of Mhada, the website is very similar to the real website of the authority, so people are easily falling into its trap. On the other hand, it has come to light that many people have fallen victim to this fake website, applied and paid and are now coming to Mhada office for enquiry. After receiving information about this, Mhada has filed a complaint against unknown people in the cyber cell.

During the investigation of the case, it came to light that the people who were applying by paying Rs 50,000 on the fake website were also being given a receipt. According to the CEO of Mhada, the application process on the official website is completely safe and the registration of applicants is free. In this, documents have to be uploaded while applying. These documents are verified and only after everything is in order the application is shortlisted for the lottery. Only after this the option to deposit the security amount will open.
