Government to spend Rs 14,000 crore on farmers, 7 schemes get cabinet approval

The Union Cabinet on Monday approved spending of around Rs 14,000 crore for seven major schemes related to the agriculture sector. In the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was decided that the government will spend Rs 14,000 crore on farmers. This expenditure includes 7 big schemes. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that 100 days of Modi 3.0 have not yet been completed and the government is taking many decisions continuously.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about the decisions taken in the Cabinet. She said the Cabinet has approved a Rs 2,817 crore Digital Farming Mission and a Rs 3,979 crore scheme for crop science. She said sustainable livestock health along with a Rs 2,291 crore programme to strengthen agricultural education and management, she said. A budget of Rs 1,702 crore has also been approved.

Apart from this, the Cabinet also approved another Rs 860 crore scheme for sustainable development of the horticulture sector. Vaishnav said the Cabinet has approved Rs 1,202 crore for Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Rs 1,115 crore for strengthening natural resource management. It has also been approved. The total allocation for these seven schemes related to the agriculture sector is over Rs 13,960 crore.

These are 7 schemes

1- Digital Agriculture Mission

The Digital Agriculture Mission will be built with the help of Rs 2,817 crore. Its two cornerstones will be – Agri Stack and Agricultural Decision Support System. Agri Stack will contain basic data (of farmers, land, etc.) and Agricultural Decision Support System will contain availability data. Data coming from satellite will also be in it. This will bring a big change.

2- Food and Nutritional Security

The cabinet has taken the second decision related to food and nutrition security for crop science. With its help, farmers should be prepared for climate resilience and food security by 2047. In this programme, 6 pillars have been kept. Its expenditure is Rs 3979 crore. In this, a lot of emphasis will be given on research and education.

3- Agricultural Education, Management and Social Sciences

The cabinet has also decided to strengthen agricultural education, management and social sciences. Rs 2,291 crore will be spent for this. In this, the entire work will be done by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Under this framework, climate resilience and natural farming will be included in the course.

4- Health and Sustainable Livestock Production

To increase farmers’ income, attention will be paid to livestock health and production. Work will be done on developing dairy products and technology. Rs 1,702 crore will be spent on this.

5- Sustainable Development of Horticulture

There are vegetables, fruits, mushrooms and many types of plants in horticulture. There is a design of Rs 860 crore for this. This will increase the chances of increasing the income of farmers.

6- Agricultural Sciences Center

Under this, agricultural science centres will be strengthened. This programme is about connecting with farmers and empowering them. Rs 1,202 crore will be spent for this.

7- Natural Resources Management

There is a Rs 1,115 crore plan on how to properly manage reservoirs, groundwater and other natural resources.
