A fast track court on Wednesday heard a petition requesting the ASI to survey the rest of the Gnanavapi Masjid complex in Varanasi. After hearing the arguments of the Hindu side, the court has scheduled the next hearing on September 6. Madan Mohan Yadav, counsel for the Hindu party, said that the case was being heard in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Yugal Shambhu, where the Hindu party presented its arguments.
Representatives of the Muslim party were present in the court during the hearing. He can present his arguments on the issue in the next hearing i.e. on September 6 in the court. Lawyer Madan Mohan Yadav said the Hindu side told the court that the original location of the jyotirling, which the Muslim side says is Vaju Khana, is in the Gnanavapi complex, under the dome of the mosque. He said that the ground water was continuously flowing from the Argha, which collected in the Gnanavapi Kund. The belief behind it was that drinking this water would lead to enlightenment. This is the reason why this tirtha is also considered a tirtha of enlightenment.
Is it a shivling or a fountain?
The lawyers of the Hindu party demanded in the court that the water should be examined in detail by water engineering, geologists and archaeologists. Along with this, the Shivlinga found in Gnanodaya Tirtha should also be examined and is it a Shivlinga or a fountain. Actually, about the Shivlinga, the Muslim side claims that it is a fountain while the Hindu side calls it a Shivlinga.
