Four Kanwariyas have been arrested for fetching water in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar. It is alleged that these Kanwariyas had a fight with the contractor on Sunday over the parking charges. Some people have also been injured in this incident. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and arrested the four Kanwariyas involved in the fight. The Kanwariyas have been identified as Mahant Saurabh Giri Naga Baba (40), Divya alias Deepu (19), Rajat (19) and Arun (18), residents of Sonipat, Haryana.
All these Kanwariyas reached Haridwar in a tractor trolley to fill water for Lord Shiva’s Jalabhishek. According to Ritesh Shah, in-charge of Muni Ki Reeti Police Station, these Kanwariyas had parked their tractor at the parking lot of Janaki Bridge near Neelkanth Temple and went to fill water. When he returned, the parking contractor asked him for the parking fee. The brides fought with the parking staff Balamsingh Bisht, Ajay and Subhash over this matter. It is alleged that in the meantime the Kanwariyas attacked the parking contractor and the parking staff with swords.
Arrested after questioning
An employee sustained head injuries in the attack. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and arranged to send the injured employee to the hospital. After taking the accused Kanwariyas into custody and bringing them to the police station for necessary interrogation, the police arrested these four accused Kanwariyas. The police are investigating the matter. Police said that a huge crowd started gathering in Haridwar from Sunday morning due to the start of Sawan from Monday.
Kanwariyas also come from Delhi and Haryana to fetch water.
Not only from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but also from Delhi and Haryana, a large number of Kanwariyas arrived to draw water at various ghats of Haridwar. Most of the Kanwariyas reached here on foot but a large number of Kanwariyas also came here riding in various vehicles. All these people decorated their vehicles in different ways. To park these vehicles, the local administration had awarded temporary parking contracts near all the ghats. The latest incident also took place in one of these parking lots, Janki Bridge.
