Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
During the monsoon session of the Bihar Assembly, Nitish Kumar made a controversial comment on RJD’s woman MLA from Mussoorie, Rekha Devi. The Chief Minister during his address told Rekha Devi that you are a woman, you don’t know anything, so sit down. There was an uproar in the House on this statement of Nitish. However, this is not the first time that Nitish Kumar has been tongue-tied about women.
Eight months ago, Nitish came under attack from the opposition for his controversial statements on fertility rates. Not only this, there have been 4 occasions in the last 3 years when Nitish has been in the headlines due to controversial comments.
When did Nitish Kumar slip his tongue?
1. Lost his temper while speaking on population control
Nitish Kumar was in government with the Grand Alliance in November 2023. Meanwhile, the opposition raised the issue of population control. Nitish stood up to speak in the assembly. Meanwhile, Nitish made a controversial comment on women. He even went so far as to say that if women are not educated, why can’t they refuse physical relations.
When there was an uproar over Nitish Kumar’s statement, he apologized the next day. Nitish said that my intention was to tell the truth, but I apologize if I hurt anyone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also targeted this statement of Nitish Kumar.
2. Said to the lady MLA – You are very beautiful
During the winter session in 2021, Nitish Kumar’s comments on woman MLA Nikki Hembram made several headlines. In fact, Nitish Kumar was speaking on liquor ban in the assembly. Meanwhile, Nikki asked a question on the issue of tribals. Nikki said that there should be relaxation regarding Mahua. Nitish lost his temper at this.
Nitish says to Nikki you are very beautiful, but do you know what I have done for tribals? There was an uproar in the House on this statement of Nitish. Nikki complained to the BJP high command calling it indecent.
3. Said to Tejashwi- Go and ask your father
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav took issue with Nitish Kumar during the budget session in 2021 when he raised the issue of crime. Nitish was enraged by Tejashwi’s accusations and became angry.
He told Tejashwi to ask his father who made him Chief Minister. I am not saying anything to you because you have played in my lap, but I am constantly watching your behavior and it is wrong. There was so much uproar over Nitish’s statement that the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned.
4. Started raising slogans against himself
In February 2024, Nitish Kumar broke away from the Grand Alliance and joined the NDA. After this, RJD MLAs started raising slogans against Nitish Kumar in the assembly session. Nitish Kumar, annoyed by this sloganeering, had also started raising slogans against himself.
After the session ended, Nitish said that people who are raising Murdabad slogans will be taught a lesson by the public.
