Chaos due to heavy rains in Gujarat
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Gujarat. Incessant rains for the past four days have disrupted public life. Due to heavy rains, flood-like conditions have occurred in many areas. The death toll has risen to 26 due to floods and rains in the last three days. These deaths occurred from Rajkot, Anand, Mahisagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Morbi, Junagadh and Bharuch districts.
At the same time, more than 40 thousand people have been displaced. More than 17000 people have been evacuated to safe places. On Wednesday, on the fourth day too, there was continuous rain in many cities of Gujarat. The situation in Vadodara is alarming. Some areas here are submerged in 10 to 12 feet of water. Relief and rescue operations are underway by the state government. Rescue work of NDRF-SDRF is going on in flood affected areas.
Red alert for rain in 11 districts of Gujarat
The Meteorological Department has declared red alert for rain in 11 districts of Gujarat and yellow alert in 22 districts. There is a possibility of heavy rain in these districts today i.e. Thursday also. The districts in which the IMD has issued a red alert include Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Botad, Girsomanath, Amreli and Bhavnagar. Along with this, yellow alert has been announced in North Gujarat, South Gujarat and Central Gujarat. Districts like Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Porbandar received 50 to 200 mm of rain on Wednesday.
Bhanwad in Devbhoomi Dwarka district received 185 mm rainfall, the highest in the state. Heavy rain is likely in various parts of Saurashtra today. Heavy rains in Vadodara led to waterlogging in areas and roads, buildings and vehicles were submerged in water. A tractor trolley was swept away while crossing a bridge in Morbi. People traveling in it went missing. Later their bodies were found.
PM Modi took control of the flood situation
Regarding the devastating floods in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel over the phone, reviewed the situation and assured all possible help. CM Patel has deployed several teams to rescue people. People are being rescued continuously. They are being taken to a safe place. Over 5000 people have been evacuated and another 1200 rescued in Vadodara so far.
24 rivers in Gujarat are flowing above the danger mark due to rains and floods. Due to which the low-lying areas are flooded. Traffic has also been affected due to rain and floods. Roads and railway lines have been submerged due to rain. Many trains have also been disrupted. Eight trains including Vande Bharat Express were canceled and 10 other trains were also partially cancelled.
