Ex-UP minister Gayatri Prajapati’s bail plea rejected, sentenced to life imprisonment on gang-rape charges.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday refused to grant bail to former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prajapati. Gayatri Prajapati is serving a life sentence in the gang rape case. A bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary and Justice Mohammad FA Khan denied bail to the former minister.

The Lucknow bench reserved its decision on September 10 after the completion of the hearing in this matter. Prajapati filed a bail application pending his appeal against the conviction by the special court. Prajapati, who was the mining minister in the Samajwadi Party government, was arrested in March 2017 and sent to jail.

The case was registered after the order of the High Court

Prajapati, who was a minister in a socialist government, is accused of raping a woman and attempting to rape her daughter. Prajapati is in jail since his arrest. In February 2017, a case was registered against the SP leader at a police station in Lucknow following a High Court order. A case was registered against former minister Gayatri Prajapati and six others in this case.

Gayatri Prajapati and six others were booked under the Gang Rape, Intimidation and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. At the same time, in November 2021, Prajapati and two others were sentenced to life imprisonment in the case. While the rest of the accused were acquitted of the charges due to insufficient evidence.

The incident of gang rape took place at the minister’s residence

Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who was the mining minister in the Samajwadi Party government, has been accused of gang-raping a Chitrakoot woman and her minor daughter. The woman had alleged that she had reached Minister Gayatri Prajapati’s house to meet him. At the same time, the minister and some of his associates drugged her and then gang-raped the minor daughter. At the same time, the High Court has now rejected Gayatri Prasad’s bail plea.
