Kangana’s ‘Emergency’ got a certificate
Actress Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’ has been hanging for a long time. Ever since the trailer of the film came out, people have started protesting it. ‘Emergency’ was supposed to hit the theaters on September 6, but the release date was postponed due to being surrounded by controversies. Although people were demanding a ban on the film, recently the Censor Board gave it a U/A certificate. Apart from this, the censor board has also asked the makers to make several changes for certification. A new release date has not been announced yet.
After getting the certificate, the way is cleared for the film. According to a report in The Sunday Express, the Censor Board has asked for three cuts in the film. The Central Board of Film Certification has also demanded factual sources for many of the film’s controversial statements. These include a statement by American Richard Nixon, in which he said something derogatory about Indian women, and in another statement, Winston Churchill used the term “breeding like rabbits” for Indians.
9 out of 10 agree on the changes
If sources are to be believed, the producer submitted the film for certification on July 8, about 3 weeks after which, Sikh organizations including Akal Takht and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti started demanding a ban on the film. The CBFC has asked for 10 changes to the film, of which Manikarnika Films Pvt Ltd has agreed to 9 changes. There have also been calls for the removal or alteration of a scene in the film, in which Pakistani soldiers attack Bangladeshi refugees, including the beheading of a child and three women.

A source said that the CBFC had sent a letter to Manikarnika Films Pvt Ltd on August 8 to modify the film, to which they received a reply on August 14. The trailer of the film was released on the same day. Out of 10 changes suggested by the board, filmmakers have agreed to all 9 changes except one. Along with this, the factual formulas sought in respect of the statements have also been given.
Why did the commotion start over the film?
The uproar over ‘Emergency’ started when its trailer showed leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale promising a separate Sikh state in return for bringing votes to Indira Gandhi’s party. On August 29, the producers were informed by email that they had been issued a UA certificate, but this certificate was not issued. The Bombay High Court has now directed the board to take a decision on the certificate by September 18.
What is U/A Certificate?
The Censor Board issues different certificates for a film according to its content, which determines the audience category. is There are U/A certificate, U certificate, A certificate and S certificate. It has a U/A certificate which means children aged 12 can watch the film under the supervision of their parents.
