ED rebuked in Chhattisgarh ex-IAS Anil Tuteja case, SC seeks all documents related to investigation

In a crucial hearing on the progress in the case of former Chhattisgarh IAS Anil Tuteja, the Supreme Court today raised serious questions over the ED probe. Justice Abhay S. in the Supreme Court. The Okani bench questioned the Enforcement Directorate counsel over the delay in the investigation. Justice Abhay S. Oka asked the Enforcement Directorate, “Isn’t it worrisome that the investigation in the 2019 ECIR has not been completed and the complaint has not been filed?” While today we have come to 2024.

The court has given time to the ED to place on record all the documents related to the case with these questions. And said that the next hearing of this case will be in the month of August. Earlier, Anil Tuteja’s lawyer said that four years have passed since the High Court granted anticipatory bail, yet the ED has not done anything. Indeed, the Enforcement Directorate has appealed against the anticipatory bail granted to Anil Tuteja by the High Court.

What is the case of Anil Tuteja?

Anil Tuteja is a retired IAS from Chhattisgarh. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Anil Tuteja and his son Yash Tuteja in connection with the liquor scam. According to the charges, Anil Tuteja was arrested under the provisions of PMLA. Anil Tuteja retired last year. ED registered a money laundering case against him.

ED claim in Anil Tuteja case

Last year, ED raided 35 liquor dens in Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. The ED claimed that between 2019 and 2022 there was massive corruption. 2000 crore money laundering trail has been found. According to the ED’s claim, the corruption was caused by the policies of the previous Chhattisgarh government. According to the ED, the entire matter involved rigging of tenders led by Anil Tuteja and Anwar Dhebar and huge loss of government revenue.
