Babu Lal Marandi and Champai Soren

A game has been played with the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Champai Soren, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party 20 days ago. Champa, who made headlines at Prime Minister Modi’s rally in Jamshedpur, has been removed from the poster by the BJP. That too from the poster of removing the current government Hemant Soren from power.

Indeed, a Pravarna Yatra is being organized before the elections. The purpose of the journey is to remove Hemant Soren from power. Champai is missing from the poster released by the party regarding this yatra. Local BJP leaders have maintained silence about Champai’s disappearance from the poster.

If there is a place for Bairi-Munda, why not Champath?

Bharatiya Janata Party Jharkhand has released a poster on Pravarna Yatra. A total of 5 leaders have been featured in this poster. Including 3 leaders from Jharkhand and 2 national level leaders. The poster features Prime Minister Narendra Modi and JP Nadda from the national quota, while state president Babu Lal Marandi, former CM Arjun Munda and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri from Jharkhand are featured.

BJP’s election slogan (Na Sehenge, Na Kehenge… Badal Ke Rehenge) has also been placed at the bottom of the poster. Former chief minister and tribal face Champai Soren, who recently joined the BJP, is completely missing from the poster.

Why is there talk of Champhai disappearing from the poster?

1. Ahead of the assembly elections in Jharkhand, the BJP is taking out a transformation journey. Home Minister Amit Shah will give green flag to the Yatra. This Yatra will pass through 200 blocks of Jharkhand. By which BJP will create atmosphere against Hemant government.

2. Champai Soren was a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who recently joined the BJP. BJP wants to win Kolhan and Santhal Parganas through Champai. Champai was at the center of the Prime Minister’s speech at the Jamshedpur rally.

3. People close to Champaign were promoting him as chief minister among JMM supporters, but now the way he has disappeared from the BJP poster, the ‘Kolhan Tiger’ political equation has gone sour.

Champai missing from the poster, what is the political meaning?

Champai Soren’s disappearance is being interpreted politically from the BJP poster. The reason for this is the assembly elections in Jharkhand to be held in two months. It is being said that BJP has given two messages by missing Champai from the poster.

First, the message is that Babu Lal Marandi is a leader in the BJP and the party will contest under his leadership. Babu Lal Marandi is leading the Jharkhand Change Yatra. Marandi is also the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand. However, the BJP will not announce anyone as the face of the Chief Minister before the elections.

Second, even if Champai gets a bigger role in future, it will be from outside Jharkhand. This matter has been discussed in the political circles of Jharkhand before. It is said that if Champai performs well, the BJP may give him some responsibility at the central level.

How strong is Champai in Jharkhand politics?

Champai Soren, who entered politics through the Jharkhand Movement, was considered a veteran leader of the Jharkhand Liberation Front. MLA has been elected 5 times from Champai Saraikela seat. While in JMM he also had the responsibility of Kolhan. Champai was also called Tiger of Kolhan in JMM.

There are total 14 assembly seats in Kolhan division. In the 2019 elections, JMM and Congress won 13 of these 14 seats. An independent candidate won one seat.

Shibu Soren, Arjun Munda and Champai Soren, who were ministers in the Hemant government, became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand in February 2024. At that time Hemant Soren was in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in a land scam case.

When Hemant came out of jail, he wrested the CM’s chair from Champal, after which Champai joined the BJP amid political upheaval.
