This temple was established 300 years ago. Everyone is surprised to hear the history of the temple. Priests and people associated with the temple say that in earlier times when some kind of auspicious work was done in the house and there was shortage of money, people would come to Bohra Ganeshji and ask for a loan. On which Lord Ganesha would lend them and the devotees would return the money after completing the work. The name was changed from Bora Ganesh Ji to Bohra Ganesh Ji.
The temple of Lord Ganesha in the heart of Udaipur city is famous throughout Rajasthan for its miracles. Lord Ganesha seated in this temple is considered to be the wealth-giving deity. It is said that if a Bohra does any work by bowing his head in the Ganeshji temple, it will surely be accomplished. Devotees never face financial problems.
People come to God to borrow money
Built during the time of Maharana Mokal Singh, this temple is more than 300 years old. The priests here say that centuries ago Lord Ganesha used to lend money to people sitting here. When needy people would come to God to ask for money when auspicious work was done at their house, Lord Ganesha would lend them money as per their requirement for a certain period of time. Later, the money was returned after the period was over as the work was settled.
We start auspicious work by bowing our head.
People said that in olden times money lenders were called bora, so this temple was also known as Bora Ganesh Ji but gradually its name changed to Bohra Ganesh Ji. Although the process of money lending has stopped now, people still bow their heads before Lord Ganesha for auspicious deeds and then start the work.
Lord Bohra Ganesha has been specially decorated on the occasion of Ganesh Mahotsav. On this day, golden fire is offered to the Lord and special prasad of ladoo is offered. Long queues of devotees form at Lord Bohra Ganeshji temple from 4 am.
