Voting for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has been completed. Voting was held on 24 seats of the union territory on Wednesday, September 18. There was great enthusiasm among the people regarding the elections being held in the state after 10 years. According to the Election Commission, voting was conducted peacefully in 24 assembly constituencies of 7 districts. Meanwhile, the statement of Jammu and Kashmir LG office has come out. In which happiness has been expressed regarding the voting held in the state.
Union Territory Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha shared a post on his social media where he said that around 59% voting has been done in the first phase. LG wrote that ‘About 59% polling in the first phase shows that democracy is flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir…’

Along with this, in his second post, the Lt. Governor thanked the people for voting in the first phase. He wrote, ‘I congratulate all my sisters and first-time voters for their huge participation in the celebration of democracy. Heartfelt thanks to the excellent security forces, JKP and election officials. Around 59% polling in the first phase shows that democracy is flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir.
Along with this, in a subsequent tweet, the LG said that the long queues of voters in Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag destroyed the campaign instigated by the protesters. People have also rejected the agenda of divisive elements and regained their faith in democracy.

Earlier, LG Manoj Sinha requested the people of the state to vote. He shared a post on social media, in which he said, ‘Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are starting today. I appeal to all the voters in whose assembly constituencies the first phase of polling is going on today, to turn out in record numbers and exercise their democratic rights. I especially urge youth, women and first-time voters to vote in large numbers.

This was the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. 219 candidates were in the fray in the first phase. In this phase, voting was held on 16 seats in South Kashmir and 8 seats in Jammu region. 23.27 lakh voters have recorded the fate of candidates in EVMs. Tight security arrangements were made during the voting.
Voting in the union territory is going on in three phases. The first phase was completed on September 18, the second phase polling on September 25 and the third phase polling on October 1. The election results will be announced on October 8. Congress and NC are contesting the elections in alliance, while some other parties including PDP, BJP, People’s Conference have contested separately.
