On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma held a meeting with the top officials of the concerned departments regarding all kinds of arrangements for the upcoming monsoon season. Meanwhile, he reviewed the preparations for flood prevention. The Chief Secretary said that the state government is fully prepared to face any situation regarding the monsoon season. He said that many progress works are underway, which will be completed before the onset of monsoon.

Chief Secretary Anurag Verma said that for the first time by the Water Resources Department under the State Disaster Prevention Fund Rs. 65 works are being done at a cost of 75 crores. Apart from this under MNREGA and with its support around Rs. 716 works worth 150 crores are being done. Besides, 129 works of approximately 15 crores are to be completed by the departmental system.

He also said that on the basis of priority and need, out of state funds Rs. There is a provision to undertake 327 more works worth 81 crores. In this way, a total of 1237 works worth about Rs.321 crore are to be done by the Water Resources Department in the year 2024-25. This time a new initiative has been taken by planting bamboo saplings on the banks of the canals. Bamboo plants act as a natural barrier. A total of 2,50,000 bamboo saplings have been planted along the banks of the canal. The department has also started construction of check dam for flood prevention. As many as 432 check dams have been constructed on the canals.
