Delhi: MCD Ward Committee Elections Announced, Nominations will be held till August 30

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced to hold ward committee elections on September 4 to elect president and vice president in its 12 zones. As per the order, the ward committee elections will be held by secret ballot, as stipulated in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Regulations 1958. Councilors have to file their nomination papers with the Corporation Secretary by August 30.

The election process will take place at various locations:

  • First 6 zones: Elections for Rohini, Najafgarh, West, South, City SP and Central zones will be held at Hansraj Gupta Auditorium of Municipal Corporation Headquarters from 10 am to 4 pm.
  • Remaining 6 zones: During the same period, elections in Karol Bagh, Keshavpuram, Shahdara South, Shahdara North, Civil Lines and Narela will be held at Satyanarayana Bansal Auditorium.

Nominations till August 30

Every candidate shall fill the nomination form for election in the prescribed form, which shall be signed by the candidate along with two other members of the Municipal Corporation. Candidates can apply till August 30 from 11 am to 5 pm.

The order also states that any candidate can withdraw his candidature at any time before the election. As per DMC rules, ward committees elect one of their members as president and other members as vice-presidents in their first meeting. The election to be held on September 4 will be considered as the first meeting of the ward committee.
