Cases of mosquito-borne diseases are on the rise in the national capital. The first death due to the mosquito-borne disease dengue occurred on Sunday. A 54-year-old man suffering from dengue died at Lok Nayak Hospital last week, officials said.

The deceased, a resident of East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area, was suffering from fever for several days, officials said. He was admitted to the hospital on August 27 due to fever and dengue related reasons. After being admitted to the hospital, his health continued to deteriorate. He finally died on September 8.

Confirming this, a senior hospital official said that one patient died due to dengue last week.

Delhi Municipal Corporation officials say that over 650 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital this year, while last year in 2023, 9,266 cases of dengue were reported in the national capital and 19 people lost their lives across Delhi.

Meanwhile, following the death of a patient due to dengue in Delhi, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has intensified its campaign against mosquito-borne diseases including malaria and dengue. This information has been given by the Public Health Department of the Delhi Corporation Administration that the leaves of the employees connected with anti-malaria and field work have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, in Ward No. 142 of Central Zone and Pandavnagar area of ​​East Delhi, house-to-house spraying was done to prevent dangerous diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya.

Politics has heated up after the dengue deaths in Delhi. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapur has accused the Corporation of negligence over the Dengue-related deaths at Loknayak Jayaprakash Hospital and demanded the resignation of Mayor Dr Shaili Oberoi.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Municipal Corporation Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh attacked Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi and said that the outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya has increased in Delhi, but the Mayor of Delhi is not taking any steps to prevent it. And protection is raised.
