Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against 38 accused in the Delhi Excise scam. Arvind Kejriwal has been made accused number 37 while his party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been made accused number 38 in the chargesheet. In a 232-page charge sheet, the ED has made serious allegations against CM Arvind Kejriwal. It was also said that the party leaders in connivance with the liquor merchants were to benefit by making policies in their favour.

According to the ED’s chargesheet, CM Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders aimed to benefit the southern lobby in return for bribes in framing the new excise policy. Based on the investigation, while referring to the role of Vijay Nair, the charge sheet states that Vijay Nair did not hold any position in the party, but was only an intermediary, liaison or broker of AAP leaders. Especially Arvind Kejriwal.

According to the charge sheet, Vijay Nair’s job was to collude with liquor barons to sway the policy in their favor so that the way for AAP leaders to take bribes would be cleared. In his statement on 17 November 2022, Nair said that even though he does not hold any official or political position in the Delhi government, he has been holding continuous meetings with liquor traders on the new liquor policy since March 2021. His advertising company’s job was to do PR for the Delhi government. Which shows his influence in AAP party and his deep nexus with party leaders.
