Delhi Chief Minister Atishi

Both the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party are gearing up for the special session of the Legislative Assembly, which is going to begin today and the session will begin at 11 am. This will be Atishi’s first term as Chief Minister and Arvind Kejriwal’s first term as an MLA since 2013. After the commencement of the session, a special mention will be made, under which the MLAs will raise issues related to the city and their constituencies after the permission of the Speaker.

The session is taking place 4 days after the swearing-in of the Delhi Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers, in which Atishi will prove his majority. However, Delhi’s ruling AAP party has a majority of 60 MLAs in the 70-member assembly. BJP has seven members and remaining three seats are vacant. Atishi, who was sworn in as Delhi’s eighth chief minister on Saturday, insisted he was a placeholder for Kejriwal, who would return to his rightful place in power if re-elected.

The opposition will be besieged

The Aam Aadmi Party has been fighting allegations of financial irregularities and deteriorating civic infrastructure in the capital. In such a situation, there is a strong possibility that the opposition BJP party will try to corner the government on these issues during the assembly session, but even this may prove difficult considering the massive majority AAP has in the House. Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijendra Gupta said the party MLAs will force the government to discuss the problems of 2 crore people of Delhi.
