Water has entered the villages of Bhagalpur.

Bihar and Poor have an old relationship and now a new chapter of corruption has been added between them. Here those who undertake the responsibility of saving lives get a golden opportunity to line their pockets in a natural calamity, resulting in a horrifying scene. An example of this was found in Gopalpur in Bhagalpur. A ring dam built here at a cost of Rs 44 crore was momentarily swallowed by the Ganga, causing hardship to hundreds of families. Scenes of devastation began to appear all around. The area was flooded. By the time people regained consciousness, the river Ganges had entered many villages. Surprisingly, Rs 15 crore was spent on repairing this dam which was washed away before the flood.

The situation is critical after the collapse of Gopalpur Bind Toli Ring Dam under Navgachia sub-division of Bhagalpur district. Hundreds of families have become miserable. Half the population has migrated and the other half remains vigilant. More than a dozen villages have been inundated due to the breach of more than 200 meters of the dam. A scene of devastation is visible all around. Village after village has been submerged. After the dam collapsed, a team from TV9 Digital reached the washout site by boat.

15 crore rupees have been spent on repairing the dam

Here is a very scary picture. The prevalence of erosion is increasing continuously. Many houses have fallen victim to it. Evacuation of displaced flood victims living on the dam is underway. Let us tell you that this dam was built in 2008 at a cost of 44 crore rupees to save dozens of villages facing flood disaster. 15 crore was spent on anti-erosion work on this dam this year, but the dam fell prey to corruption.

Ganga is flowing above the danger mark

At present, the water level of the Ganga here is 58 centimeters above the danger mark. The water level has receded slightly today, but the water level is expected to rise again in the next 48 hours. The District Magistrate is continuously reviewing the situation. Dozens of SDRF teams and NDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations in the Ganges River. The village is being completely evacuated. The people living on the dam have also been instructed to vacate the dam at the earliest. An instruction has been given to completely empty the dam by Wednesday night.

What did the District Magistrate say?

The District Magistrate along with subordinate officials reviewed the condition of the dam and submerged village in an SDRF boat. He also directed to carry out the restoration work of the dam. District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary said that the people living on the dam have already been given land. People have forcibly encroached the dam. We cannot put lakhs of people in trouble for a few people, where there is a cut, the restoration work is going on continuously.

Questions are being raised due to dam failure

However, many questions are being raised after the demolition of this dam. Finally, why the ring dam built at a cost of 44 crore rupees could not withstand the declining water level of the Ganges? 15 crore rupees spent on repairs, how could it be washed away so easily? Water spread in many villages, normal life disrupted, who is responsible for this? Dozens of houses collapsed, who will compensate them? Large part of dam collapsed, action will be taken against negligent officer and engineer? If this dam had collapsed at night there would have been a huge loss of life, who would be responsible for it? When will this ring dam finally become solid again?
