Murder of old woman in papers
A similar case has come to light from Ambedkarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was declared dead in the files. The old woman is now stumbling from house to house to prove that she is alive. The old lady reaches the collector’s office and is trying to prove herself alive. An elderly widow woman who was a victim of extortion by the officials narrated her problems to DM Avinash Singh. The DM was also surprised when he found the information about the woman’s death on paper and ordered immediate action.
A letter has also been sent to restore the old age pension of the woman on the direction of the DM. Immediate action has been taken against the officials who declared the woman dead. A letter of suspension has been sent against two officials. Strict instructions were given to prevent such negligence from happening again.
The DM gave instructions for action
On Thursday, when the DM was sitting in a public darshan, an elderly woman reached there. Keola Devi, a resident of Patauna village in Katehari, whose husband Jokhuram died a few years ago. When the old woman applied for old age pension, she was declared dead on paper. In this regard he complained to DM Avinash Singh and said that he has been beaten on paper.
Kevala Devi was declared dead in the files and her pension was also stopped. Kevala Devi has been trying to prove herself alive for over a year. When Kewal Devi complained to the DM, DM Avinash Singh immediately decided to take action on it and nominated the District Social Welfare Officer as the Inquiry Officer and asked him to immediately investigate the matter and submit a report.
The action had an immediate impact
The social welfare officer sent his report to the DM in no time. According to the inquiry report, in 2022-23, the then Village Development Officer declared Kevala Devi dead in his verification report, due to which her pension was withheld. On the instructions of DM, Samaj Kalyan was sent to Uttar Pradesh to restore old age pension.
The DM has directed immediate suspension action against the then Gram Panchayat Officer Sarita Shukla for negligence in the verification report and declaring a living woman as dead and issuing a suspension letter to the Assistant Development Officer. DM Avinash Kumar Singh said that such negligence will not be tolerated at all. Action has been taken against Gram Panchayat Officer and Assistant Development Officer. The DM said that it is our priority that everyone gets the benefit of the government schemes.
