Elections are likely to be held in Jammu and Kashmir this year itself after delimitation.

BJP has become serious about the assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir. After the delimitation, there are chances that elections will be held in the state this year itself. In such a situation, Home Minister Amit Shah himself is preparing the election strategy on behalf of BJP. Recently, Amit Shah and JP Nadda also held a meeting with ‘Team 7’ leaders looking at the party’s working in the state and discussed the review and strategy of the situation and election preparations in the state. The meeting was attended by BJP state president Ravindra Raina, organization general secretary Ashok Kaul, three state general secretaries Jitendra Singh, Jugal Kishore Sharma and election in-charge G Kishan Reddy.

According to sources, the party will focus on all the seats in Jammu region instead of contesting all the seats in Jammu and Kashmir. After delimitation, the number of assembly seats in Jammu has increased from 37 to 43. Kashmir has increased by only one seat and now the number has increased from 46 to 47.

Will increase rapport with smaller parties in the valley

If sources are to be believed, the BJP itself will contest in fewer seats in the Valley and may coordinate with smaller parties in most of the seats and support independents. According to sources, candidates can be fielded in a dozen seats like Rafiabad, Lolab, Karnah, Kupwara, Sopore, Uri, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Gurez as this time the election is not only after the abrogation of Article 370 but also the first assembly in the state. There is an election, but it is also an election of prestige for the party.

In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP did not field its candidate in the Valley but indirectly supported Rashid Engineer and Rashid managed to win the Baramulla seat. After the abrogation of Article 370, the election here is very prestigious for the BJP. The BJP has high hopes for the decline in terrorism and the changed environment.

Omar Abdullah was also defeated in the general elections

Looking at the voter participation in the general elections, there is a lot of excitement about the elections in the state. The general election results have also been shocking. Major leaders of the two regional parties of the state, former CM and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference leader and former CM Omar Abdullah faced defeat. This time in the Lok Sabha, people exercised their voting rights enthusiastically.

BJP formed the government in 2014

In the last assembly elections of 2014, BJP formed the government along with PDP. Subsequently, in the 87-member assembly, the BJP won a landslide victory in Jammu region with 25 seats while the PDP won 28 seats in the Valley. Later this connection was broken. After 2019 the situation has changed. Jammu and Kashmir was partitioned and Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir became two Union Territories.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not field candidates on all the three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir Valley. In such a situation, it is impossible to get a majority in the assembly elections without fielding candidates in the valley to form the government.
