West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an important comment on the judiciary on Saturday. Stating that the judiciary should be free from any political bias, he said it should be completely impartial and honest. Judiciary is the main pillar of India’s foundation to protect democracy, constitution and interests of people. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam were also present when Mamata Banerjee was speaking.

According to a PTI report, CM Banerjee while inaugurating the second regional conference of the National Judicial Academy (Eastern Region) in Kolkata said please keep in mind that there should be no political bias in the judiciary. Courts should be completely impartial, honest and holy and should be worshiped by the people. Judiciary is like a temple, mosque, gurudwara and church and it is by the people and for the people.

The Chief Minister said that his government has allocated Rs. 1,000 crore has been spent. Land has been made available for the new High Court complex in Rajarhat New Town. There are 88 fast track courts functioning in the state. Earlier the central government provided assistance for the establishment of these courts, but this provision has been withdrawn in the last seven-eight years. Out of 88 fast track courts, 55 are for women and there are six POCSO courts.

The CJI described judges as servants of the Constitution, not masters.

On the other hand, CJI considered judges as servants and not masters of the Constitution. The CJI warned the judiciary about the damage to the personal values ​​and belief system of judges who intervene in decisions against the values ​​enshrined in the Constitution. He said that we are experts in constitutional interpretation, but a just society can be established only from the perspective of constitutional ethics of the judiciary.
