Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann, who used to sing ‘Chhalla’ in the fields with his friends as a child and mesmerized everyone, recently gave an exclusive interview to TV9 Hindi Digital. During this time he also shared many things. His name is among those artists in the music industry who have made their mark on their own. He learned to hum from nature, to sing among friends in the fields. During an interview, Gurdas Ma said that before becoming famous, he had never taken music lessons from a guru. Coming to the present time, Gurdas Mann has recently released an album, titled ‘Sound of Soil’.
Gurdas Mann is known as an artist associated with clay. Recalling his childhood, he said that in his childhood there was no one to teach music in his village. For this reason whatever he has learned, he has learned from himself. He said that in earlier times he used to go to the fields with his friends, singing and humming along the way. It can be said that his journey started with light-hearted songs and somewhere along with all these stories the title of his upcoming album is also connected.
Clay coins were obtained for singing songs
Gurdas Maan said, “In childhood, when all our friends would go to the farm, I would sing for them. Just like people used to give money to someone performing on stage, my friends used to make coins out of broken pottery and hand them to me. Talking about Guru in an interview, Gurdas Mann said that when many of his songs became popular, he started learning music from Guru. But being mostly busy, they could never learn properly.

Writing songs himself, composing tunes and singing songs, all this he attributes to nature. However, he said that at one point he started learning to sing on the instrument from a guy. But he was not a musician but a labourer, people called him Rafi because he sang Mohammad Rafi songs well. Gurdas Ma said that he used to pause a little while his guru was speaking, but he did not pause at all while singing. Gurdas Ma asked him to learn to sing, as he had a harmonium. Rafi agreed, but kept his monthly fee. He said he would charge Rs 10-15 per month for singing lessons. However, he was not Gurdas Mann’s guru.
Talking about Gurdas Maan’s album ‘Sound of Swill’ the first song ‘Main Hi Zoothi’ has been released. Shivangi Joshi is seen along with Gurdas Maan in this song. Gurdas Maan will also be seen dancing in the video of the song.
