In Solapur, Maharashtra, there is a village where children play with snakes. Snakes are a part of people’s lives. People living here invite snakes to play in their homes. Children are usually kept away from water and dangerous creatures, but in Shetpal village in Maharashtra, children play with snakes with great joy. In some parts of the country, people kill snakes to protect them, but in this village, snakes are warmly welcomed.
People living here do not kill snakes. The special thing is that no one has been bitten by a snake here till date. More than 2600 people of this village worship Naga and consider him as God. That is why they never beat him but consider his coming into the house auspicious.
A place for a snake in a new home
Whenever people living here build their new house, it also creates a place for snakes to live in the house. They keep the place made for snakes clean like a temple. All arrangements are made there from food offering to worship. They consider the arrival of snakes as their good luck and welcome them on sight.

Villagers say that it is difficult to guess when this practice of living with snakes started in the village, but they have been seen living with snakes for years.
