Mukesh Ambani to manufacture solar panels in the country

To bring down the rising electricity bills and provide 300 units of free electricity to the people, the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has been launched in the country. Very soon, the country’s largest company, Reliance Industries, will be able to play a major role in supporting this scheme and making it successful. At the 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries held on Wednesday, Mukesh Ambani made an announcement that can be very important for this scheme.

In fact, under the Chief Minister Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, apart from the Central Government, several state governments are also offering subsidies to people to install rooftop solar power plants. If there is anything more important in this project, it is the solar panels. This is where the role of Mukesh Ambani and his company begins in making this scheme a success.

Reliance to manufacture complete solar panels in the country

Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said that the company is now rapidly moving towards green energy. The company has long been working on local production of solar modules and later this year, production will begin at its Giga Factory in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This will be the largest solar panel factory of its kind in the world. Thus, with the opening of the world’s largest refinery and this factory, Jamnagar will be the ‘Energy Capital’ of the world.

Mukesh Ambani said that the initial production capacity of his Solar Giga Factory will be 20 GW. This factory has been designed in such a way that its capacity can be increased quickly. What is special about this Gigafactory is that not only photovoltaic solar cells will be manufactured here. In fact, different modules or components used in the manufacture of solar panels such as wafers and ingots, polysilicon and glass will also be produced here.

This step by Reliance Industries will help India achieve the objectives of the ‘PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’. It will be responsible for installing domestically produced solar panels in the country.

Work on manufacturing lithium batteries will also begin soon.

Mukesh Ambani also said that it has set a target of industrialising sodium-ion cell production at MW level by 2025 and starting a pilot project of lithium battery cells of 50 MW annual capacity for the first time in 2026. Reliance had announced in 2021 that it would invest $10 billion over the next 3 years to develop a new energy business based on 100 GW (1 GW = 1000 MW) of renewable energy in the country by 2030.

The plan includes setting up four large factories in Jamnagar, Gujarat, for manufacturing equipment, battery storage, power cells and hydrogen for renewable energy production. After the launch of Reliance’s renewable energy business, it will start earning as much as its petrochemical business does now in five to seven years.

He said the company has leased vacant land in Kutch. Around 150 billion units of electricity will be generated on this arid land in the next 10 years. This will be equivalent to around 10 per cent of India’s energy needs.
