A bulldozer ran in Bhajanlal Sharma’s constituency

JDA (Jaipur Development Authority) has taken a major action against illegal construction in Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s assembly constituency Sanganer. More than 600 illegal structures built within the road boundary in an area of 6.5 km on New Sanganer Road are being demolished. Citing the order of the High Court, the road is being made 200 feet wide. However, locals say that the High Court never said that the road should be widened this much. The order only asked for removal of encroachments.

Local people say that in response to the PIL, the High Court has only asked to remove the encroachment. The order made it clear that we are not saying anything about the width of the road, only that illegal encroachments should be removed. But JDA’s enforcement officer Additional SP Mahendra Sharma said that on the order of the court, we are removing the illegal encroachment by widening the road by 200 feet. JDA DC Sunil Sharma also said that this action is being taken on the orders of the High Court.

Allegation of collusion against the government

The police have also served notices and banned those opposing the removal of illegal encroachments. Locals accused the government of collusion and said the action was being taken to benefit influential people. New Sanganer Road Trade Board President Amit Sharma says that the High Court has never said that the width of the road should be 200 feet. This action is being taken to benefit 4 petrol pumps, 5 large marriage gardens and malls.

Police force was also present during this action of JDA. However, local people opposed it and made several allegations against the government. During the proceedings many women pleaded not to be made homeless. However, the JDA administration and the police did not listen to their complaint and continued the proceedings.
