Agriculture experts have demanded that the Finance Minister increase the amount of Prime Minister Kisan from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000.

Recently, during the pre-budget discussions, agriculture experts met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. According to media reports, she has requested the Finance Minister to increase the PM-Kisan quota amount from the current Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 annually in the Union Budget. In Budget 2024, she has asked for providing all subsidies directly to farmers through direct benefit transfer as well as providing additional funds for agricultural research. On February 24, 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme was launched to help land-owning farmers meet their financial needs.

Benefits of PM Kisan Yojana

Under the PM Kisan Yojana, eligible farmer families across the country are receiving Rs 6,000 annually, which is paid in three instalments every four months through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). A total of over Rs 3.04 lakh crore has been paid so far to over 11 million farmers across the country. With the recently released PM Kisan amount, the total amount paid to beneficiaries since the launch of the scheme will cross Rs 3.24 lakh crore.

In fact, after assuming charge as Prime Minister for the third time, Narendra Modi’s first decision was to release the 17th instalment of the Prime Minister Kisan Yojana to eligible farmers. 9.3 crore farmers have benefited from this instalment. Around Rs 20,000 crore has been released in this.
