Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

With the formation of the new government in the country, preparations for the budget began. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has discussed the budget with various industrial organizations and states, after which the full budget can now be presented during the monsoon session. The general public has high expectations regarding this budget. Today, the biggest stress people face is related to medical expenses. In such a situation, let us know if Nirmala Sitharaman will reduce the hospital bill in this budget.

During the interim budget 2024, the Finance Minister made some important announcements for the health sector such as prioritizing anganwadis and cervical cancer. But many long-standing expectations, such as expansion of concessional tax regime, rationalization of GST and increased investment in the healthcare sector, are yet to be fulfilled. However, industry leaders are hopeful that these issues will be addressed in the upcoming budget.

The hospital bill is the biggest stress

The cost of hospital admission remains a concern for many people. In May this year, the Supreme Court pulled up the government for not setting a cap on treatment fees in private hospitals and clinics. Subsequently, the Bureau of Indian Standards has initiated efforts to increase standardization and transparency in the billing process in hospitals.

More burden falls on these people

If you don’t have insurance, hospital costs can be very expensive for you. In most cases, hospitals have different costs for patients who bill themselves and those billed by the insurance company. Most people have to pay more than half of the treatment costs out of their own pocket. In such a situation, people expect the government to provide relief on their hospital bills.

This government scheme proved useful.

While on one hand, costly treatment in private hospitals is draining the pockets of people, on the other hand, Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana is proving to be helpful for the people. With the help of Ayushman Bharat card, beneficiaries can get treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh in the hospital. The poor and economically weak citizens of the country are benefiting from it. Now the President has announced that people above the age of 70 years will also benefit from this scheme.
