Brutality with doctors in Kolkata, Riot by resident doctors in Delhi, OPD-OT service shut down in AIIMS

Outrage among resident doctors in Delhi

There is a nationwide strike by resident doctors today against the killing of a trainee doctor in West Bengal’s Kolkata. Resident doctors of several government hospitals, including Delhi’s AIIMS, are on strike. OPD, OT and ward services are suspended. OPD services, elective surgery and lab services are closed at Delhi’s Lady Hardinge Medical College, Kalavati Hospital, Sucheta Kripalani, Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia (RML), Loknayak Hospital, GB Pant, Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital. Due to which the patients are facing great hardship.

President of Federation of All India Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), a nationwide organization of resident doctors, Dr. Rohan Krishnan told TV9 that resident doctors in all hospitals in Delhi are on strike today. However, emergency services will continue during this period. FAIMA Doctors Association has demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

This protest is having a direct impact on the patients coming to the OPD. From today no resident doctor will work in any department except emergency. Currently 1500 resident doctors are on strike in RML. The President of the Resident Doctor Welfare Association is also meeting with the Health Secretary at this time. The Health Secretary has called a team of Resident Doctors Association to Nirman Bhavan to discuss the West Bengal issue and the issue of doctors’ safety.

The team includes representatives from all the RDAs in Delhi, including doctors from different hospitals. Doctors are demanding their protection from the government. After this incident, doctors are demanding Central Protection Act from the government.
