Big win for AAP in Jalandhar West bypoll, Mohinder Bhagat hoists the flag

Aam Aadmi Party has hoisted the flag of victory in the Jalandhar West assembly by-election. AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat has defeated BJP candidate Sheetal Angural by 37325 thousand votes. Mohinder Bhagat got 55246 thousand votes while Angural came second with 17921 votes. At the same time, Congress’s Surinder Kaur is third. He got 16757 thousand votes.

After the defeat in the Lok Sabha, this election was very important for the Aam Aadmi Party and the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself. The Aam Aadmi Party is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time after winning 92 seats in 2022, so it is being considered as a test for the 2027 Punjab Assembly. This was the reason why CM Maan put all his energy into the election campaign.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was in Jalandhar for about a month regarding this election. CM Mann and his family were constantly campaigning. His wife herself was seen campaigning. Along with public meetings, she also did door-to-door canvassing.

BJP’s defection strategy did not work in Punjab

BJP’s defection gamble did not work in Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sheetal Angural joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections. After this this seat became vacant. After this BJP fielded Angural from Jalanghar West. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party bet on Mohinder Bhagat, who had quit the BJP. Surinder Kaur was in the fray from Congress.
