Manish Kumar Verma and Nitish Kumar

A retired bureaucrat is about to enter Bihar politics. Retired IAS Manish Kumar Verma is going to start his political journey with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for which he will take membership of JDU on Tuesday. Manish Kumar Verma is being touted as JDU’s new RCP Singh as he also hails from CM Nitish’s home district Nawada and also belongs to the Kurmi community. Apart from being very loyal and native to Nitish Kumar, he is also very close to him, as RCP Singh was once believed to be.

Ramchandra Prasad Singh (RCP Singh), a bureaucrat-turned-politician, took the finger of CM Nitish Kumar and moved into politics and took charge of the JDU. RCP Singh and Nitish Kumar hail from the same district Nalanda and from the same caste Kurmi community. In such a situation, the friendship between the two leaders deepened and the RCP soon became Nitish’s eyes, nose and ears. At one point, after Nitish, he held the number two position in the JDU and was also the party president, but when he started to find his own political identity separate from Nitish, it was not too late to show him a way out.

Manish Kumar Verma replaced RCP Singh

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has found an alternative to RCP Singh in the form of Manish Kumar Verma. Like RCP Singh, Manish Verma has also been an IAS. He is a resident of Nalanda and hails from the Kurmi caste of Nitish Kumar. Has been District Magistrate of Patna and Purna. After taking VRS, Manish Verma has been serving as Additional Advisor to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for quite some time now. Now he has made a strategy to make his political innings with JDU by resigning. For this we will formally take the membership of JDU.

Manish Kumar Verma has been working with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the past few years. Although he is not seen on the front foot in JDU politics, he is working to put all the pieces through the back door. Manish Kumar has entered politics at a time when the political chessboard is being thrown for the Bihar assembly elections. This is why the entry of Manish Verma in JDU is considered important. There is also talk that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may give him some important responsibility in view of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

IAS officers of Odisha cadre were created in 2000

Manish Kumar Verma, who was an IAS, started his career from Odisha. In the year 2000, he became an IAS officer of Odisha cadre. His first posting was as Sub Collector in Kalahandi, Odisha. After this he held the post of SDM in Gunpur and Raigad. After five years of service, he was made DM of Malkangiri district for the first time. Till 2012 he was DM in several districts of Odisha. But in 2012 he decided to come to Bihar for 5 years on inter state deputation. As soon as he came to Bihar, Manish Verma became close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which gave him important responsibilities. After being District Magistrate of Patna and Purna, he was Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Worked with Nitish after quitting

When Manish Verma’s five-year deputation term ended on 23 March 2018, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet of the Government of India issued an order to send him back to Odisha. After this Manish Kumar Verma refused to go back and left the job after taking VRS. Nitish nominated Manish Kumar Verma as a member of the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority in the Government of Bihar and then appointed Nitish Kumar as an additional advisor to K Kumar, after which Manish Verma continued to work with Nitish Kumar. Now that Verma has decided to step up his political innings with JDU, he is also being touted as Nitish Kumar’s successor.

Will Manish Kumar replace RCP Singh?

Manish Kumar Verma’s political stature in JDU may be similar to that of RCP Singh at one time. After RCP joined BJP, Nitish Kumar was looking for the face of Kurmi community in JDU. In such a situation, Nitish has adopted a strategy to deliver a political message by fielding Manish Verma, who hails from his home district and his ethnic Kurmi community, on the political pitch ahead of the assembly elections. In such a situation, it remains to be seen how Manish Kumar thrives politically?
