One person has died in a fire caused by a short circuit in the ICU of SKMCH Hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. At the time of the fire, 20 patients were admitted in the ICU. As soon as the fire broke out, there was chaos in the entire ICU ward. Relatives of the patients fainted on the spot. The hospital administration immediately shifted all the patients to dengue ward. On receiving information about the incident, the hospital staff controlled the fire with fire safety cylinders.
A fire in the ICU of SKMCH Hospital in Muzaffarpur district resulted in the admission of 20 patients, including Sunita, who was suffering from kidney disease, two of whom were on ventilators. Due to the fire, the patients started having difficulty in breathing. Meanwhile, Vishwanath Rai, a resident of East Champaran, who was on ventilator, died due to lack of oxygen. During the fire, there was chaos in the entire ICU ward. The entire ward was engulfed in smoke.
3 crore fire system is not working
The patients were immediately shifted to dengue ward. After the incident, the family protested strongly, questioning the system of the hospital administration. According to information, a fire drainage system has been installed in the hospital at a cost of Rs 3 crore, but even when the time came, the system was not working. The patient’s family present in the ICU at the time of the incident said that someone had connected the mobile phone to the electrical board for charging.

Meanwhile, smoke started coming out of the board with a loud noise. In no time, smoke spread throughout the ICU. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the security personnel deployed there controlled the fire with the help of fire safety cylinder. Amit, son of the deceased Vishwanath Rai, said that his father was admitted to the hospital four days ago complaining of difficulty in breathing. During the fire, all the family members were running away with the patients in their arms.

When I also went to take my father out, the nurse said that let it be, as the smoke spread in the ward, my father was taken out of oxygen and taken out. He died in the meantime. Informing about the incident, SKMCH Superintendent Kumari Vibha said that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the ICU. Which was immediately brought under control. One patient has died in this incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
