Bhushan Singh, who was electrocuted, said that there were 16 people in the boat. He said that he had gone by boat from Babarbani village to Gola Bazar in Sonpur to buy household items. He boarded a boat to return. In the meantime, the boat came under the influence of high tension electric wires, due to which the people on board the boat became confused.
Four people were swept away, two were electrocuted
The electric shock scared people and started jumping from the boat. 10 people swam out and 4 people drowned. At the same time, two people including Bhishma were burnt due to electric shock. He was admitted to Sonpur Hospital for treatment. The boat was submerged in flood waters. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the officials of Sonpur reached the spot. Two teams of SDRF were deployed during the night to search for the four missing persons. No trace of missing persons found.
Anger among people, blame on power department
Local people are angry about the incident. According to him, the area has been flooded for three days. Due to which the power failed. Suddenly the electricity was turned on due to which this incident took place. People said that the low-lying areas of Sonpur block are in the grip of floods. People are leaving home and migrating. The incident took place on Thursday evening. According to police, the boat crashed due to electrocution after it touched an electric pole in the floodwaters in a field near Jitia Power House under Sonpur police station.
