A major accident took place in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on Monday, a month ago. Eleven friends who had gone to bathe in the Ganga before anointing Lord Shiva suddenly drowned in the deep water. Seven others have been hospitalized in critical condition. The incident took place in Bhawanipur village of Narayanpur block of Bhagalpur.
After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and took possession of the dead bodies of the four friends and started investigating the case. According to the police, all the 11 friends were residents of Naya Tola village under Navgachia police station area. All had decided to anoint Lord Shiva with Ganges water on the first Monday of Shavan. For this, all of them reached Bhawanipur to draw water on Sunday night. Early on Monday morning all came to Ganga ghat to fill water and started bathing. Meanwhile, a young man named Alok Kumar slipped and started drowning in the deep water.
In which 4 people died including 2 minors
The remaining 10 friends tried to save him, but they all started drowning. Because of this, there was an uproar on the banks of the Ganges. It was a good coincidence that there were also some divers. These divers pulled everyone out of the water with great difficulty, but in no time, four friends including Alok died. This includes two minors. The deceased have been identified as Shivam Kumar (18), Sonu Kumar (16), Alok Kumar (18), Sanjeev Kumar (17).
There is no barricading at the Ganga Ghats
On receiving the information, Bhawanipur Police Station Head Mahesh Kumar, Circle Officer Vishal Aggarwal, RO Bharat Kumar Jha and many other officials reached the spot and investigated the matter. Meanwhile, as soon as the information was received, the families of all these 11 friends also reached the spot. Local people have held the administration responsible for the incident. He said that the police and the administration also know that there is a huge crowd of devotees at the Ganga Ghat in Sawan. However, neither barricading nor any other arrangements have been made for rescue work at any of the ghats. On the first Monday of Sawan, 4 people had to pay the price of this negligence of the administration by sacrificing their lives.
