Four public sector banks, including Canara Bank and Indian Bank, on Wednesday handed over dividend cheques worth a total of Rs 6,481 crore for the financial year 2023-24 to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Ministry said in a post on the social media platform.

Similarly, Canara Bank MD & CEO K Satyanarayana Raju handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 1,838.15 crore. Chennai-based Indian Bank also handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 1,193.45 crore to the government during the last financial year. Public sector Bank of India also handed over a dividend of Rs 935.44 crore to the Finance Minister. The bank’s MD & CEO Rajneesh Karnataka handed over a cheque for this amount. Apart from these, Mumbai-based financial institution Exim Bank also handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 252 crore to the government for the financial year 2023-24.

Earlier, the Reserve Bank of India had given a record dividend of Rs 2 lakh crore to the government. According to experts, the government will get many kinds of relief in the coming days due to the RBI dividend.
