It has been more than five months since the death of Uttar Pradesh mafia don and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari. Only one prisoner has been brought to the separate barracks of Banda Jail where Mukhtar was imprisoned. The barracks are still sealed. But its security system is still the same as before. That means the barracks are monitored by 6 CCTV cameras. A security guard is posted outside. This barrack is monitored 24×7. Jailer explained the reason behind this.
Mukhtar Ansari was brought to Banda from Ropar Jail in Punjab on 7 April 2021. After this the security of Banda Mandal Jail was increased. CCTV cameras were installed to monitor every nook and corner of the high security jail. Six separate cameras were installed to monitor the barracks where Mukhtar Ansari was kept. The cameras installed in the barracks were directly connected to the Command Office Lucknow.
Mukhtar Ansari died of a heart attack on the evening of March 28. While many questions were raised over the death, a judicial and magisterial inquiry was conducted. Mukhtar’s family is calling it murder. He says that Mukhtar died due to slow poisoning inside the jail. He has repeatedly appealed to the court to re-investigate the matter. Because this is no ordinary death of Mukhtar.

Five months have passed since Mukhtar’s death. But this barrack is still sealed. No prisoners are brought here. The investigation has also been completed. What did the jailer say?
In this case, the Jailer of Banda Mandal Jail said – After collecting evidence for judicial and magisterial inquiry into the death of Mukhtar Ansari, the separate barracks were sealed. The barracks have since been sealed. So far there is no order to open the barracks. Security arrangements and surveillance will remain as before. The barracks are monitored by six CCTV cameras. The premises will be monitored in this way until orders are received to open them. Also no prisoner will be brought till then.
