Delhi Chief Minister Atishi

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi attacked the BJP on the election of the sixth member of the Standing Committee of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. He said that the elections held yesterday by the Bharatiya Janata Party were illegal and unconstitutional. That election is undemocratic. Our country India runs on the constitution and the laws made according to the constitution, but BJP has torn democracy into pieces in this election.

Atishi said that a law has been passed by Parliament to run the Delhi Municipal Corporation. That is the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act 1957. If we look at those rules and regulations, there is ‘Regulation 51’ which is about the election of the Standing Committee. It is clearly written that the standing committee members will be selected in the meeting of the corporation. Only the Mayor has the right to call a meeting. The right to preside is vested only in the Mayor and in his absence the Deputy Mayor.

BJP destroyed democracy

The Delhi CM further said that the BJP does not care about destroying democracy. Although the lieutenant governor has no power, the lieutenant governor gives orders and the commissioners carry out those orders, violating democracy and the constitution. Call a meeting of the corporation. They hold elections and an IAS officer is made the president instead of an elected mayor. The Lt. Governor and his officials violated the constitution and democracy in the election held yesterday by the BJP.

Atishi said that we will definitely go to the Supreme Court in this matter. The petition will be filed in the Supreme Court today itself, as the election conducted by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the House yesterday is completely illegal. We will go to the Supreme Court against this undemocratic election and today we will prepare a petition in the Supreme Court against this illegal and unconstitutional and democratic election.

BJP candidate won, securing 115 votes

Voting was held on Friday for the last vacant seat of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. BJP candidate Sundar Singh got 115 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party’s Nirmala Kumari did not get a single vote. Actually Congress and Aam Aadmi Party did not participate in this election. With this win, the BJP has 10 members in the 18-member standing committee of the Delhi Municipal Corporation while the AAP has only eight members. The seat where the election was held fell vacant after BJP leader Kamaljit Sehrawat was elected as MP from West Delhi.
