Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar is making several statements ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. Sometimes he questions the decisions of his fellow party and sometimes he regrets the decisions taken in the Lok Sabha elections. Ajit Pawar who fielded his wife against sister Supriya Sule in Baramati is regretting his decision after 2 months. Ajith said, I love all my sisters. Politics should be kept away from home and family. I made a mistake by fielding Sunetra against my sister. Now the question is whether this is an emotional message from Ajit Pawar to the people of Maharashtra or his changing mood before the elections.
In July last year, Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde-led government, causing the NCP to split into two. The Election Commission later declared the group led by Ajith as the de facto NCP. Ajit Pawar, who separated from his uncle for power, is also seen taking a soft stance on Sharad Pawar. He said that Sharad Pawar is a senior leader and the head of his family, so he will not respond to any of his criticisms.
Will the meetings be discussed?
After Ajit Pawar’s recent statement on Supriya Sule and Sharad Pawar, clouds of speculation have started swirling in the political atmosphere. Talks on seat sharing in any coalition for assembly elections have not been finalized yet. However, the ruling coalition Mahayuti and the opposition coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi are claiming that a decision on seat sharing will be discussed soon. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s NCP is in a grand alliance with the BJP and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Ajith wants to contest on 80-90 seats in Maharashtra. He made this demand in a meeting with Amit Shah. He also demanded seat sharing as soon as possible and avoid getting stuck till the last minute like in the Lok Sabha elections. Ajit Pawar has a good number of checklists for his allies BJP and Shiv Sena.
The party wants to contest the 54 seats that the undivided NCP won in the 2019 assembly elections. Apart from this, Ajit Pawar aims to contest 20 seats against the Congress from West Maharashtra, Marathwada and North Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar is also eyeing 4-5 assembly seats in Mumbai against the Congress. These seats are dominated by minority votebanks. Apart from this, he is also confident that 3 independent and 3 Congress MLAs will contest the elections on his party’s ticket.
Ajit Dada has made his demand clear. On the other hand, Shiv Sena under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also wants to contest elections on 100 seats. Being the ‘major partner’ in the alliance, the BJP aims to contest 160-170 seats.
Will union resentment cause secession?
Not only is there a problem with seats in the Mahayuti, the RSS is also not happy with Ajit Pawar. The issue of displeasure of the Sangh leaders has been raised in the coordination meeting of Sangh and BJP in Nagpur. Sangh officials have already expressed their displeasure over the inclusion of Ajit Pawar in the NDA. The Sangh believes that bringing Ajit Pawar along has not benefited the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections, Shinde got 89 percent of the BJP’s votes, but 88 percent of Shinde’s votes were transferred to the BJP. The vote transferability of BJP and Ajit Pawar was just below 50 percent.
Ajit Pawar is an expert player in politics. They know when to hold someone’s hand and when to let go. He doesn’t want to offend uncle Sharad Pawar and also doesn’t want to have differences with BJP. This Pawar family leader wants to keep his options open. By being in the Mahayuti he sends a message to the BJP that I have another option in the form of MVA, so by being with the BJP I have already harmed Kaka.
Well, Ajith is not playing the emotional card by making a statement on sister Supriya for the first time. He did something similar even before the Lok Sabha elections. He gave an emotional statement on Sharad Pawar. Then he said that I am also above 60 years. Do we have a chance or not? Are we misbehaving? That is why we become emotional. Pawar Sahib is also our ‘Daivat’ (God) and no doubt about it, but after crossing 80 everyone has their time, new people should be given a chance.
Expressed displeasure over the Waqf Bill
While Ajit Pawar seems soft on Sharad and Supriya, he is questioning the government’s decision. He recently made a statement on the Waqf Bill. Ajit Pawar said that his party will no longer allow injustice to Muslims in the Waqf Board Bill. He said that NCP has decided that if you (Muslims) have any concerns about this bill, we will listen to your concerns. We will not allow any kind of injustice to minorities.
