Another turn
Akshay Kumar came to Mumbai and started trying in Bollywood along with modeling. Things were not working. He got about 17 seconds in the 1987 film Aaj, in which he played a karate instructor. But did not get a big role. So how did you get the first film? His story was narrated by Akshay himself in an interview. That incident was also a big turning point in his life.
Akshay Kumar said in an interview to Curly Tales, “I had already started modeling, so I was called for a ramp walk project in Bengaluru. I was told to come at 6 o’clock. Then I woke up in the morning. Exercised. Then at about 5:15 in the morning my house phone rang and I was asked where I was. I said I had just finished exercising and was going to take a shower. He said you don’t know you have a 6 am flight. I thought it was an evening flight.”
Akshay says he apologized and said I will come. But he replied, “You are a very unprofessional person. It hurts to see people like you. I apologized and quickly took out the motorcycle and ran away. But I missed my flight at 6 o’clock. I was very sad all day.” After this, Akshay’s mother explained to him. Akshay then went to Nataraj Studio, where he met a man named Narendra. He was the makeup man of Pramod Chakraborty’s company.
Narendra asks Akshay for his photo and goes inside and shows the photo to Pramod Chakraborty. After 15 minutes, Akshay was called inside. Pramod Chakraborty liked Akshay’s picture. He signed Akshay as the hero in his next film Deedar. After this, Akshay was given a check of five thousand rupees as an advance. By the time the check was handed over to him, it was exactly 6 o’clock on the clock. Akshay said that if I had caught the flight at 6 in the morning, I would not have got the film at 6 in the evening.
