The actor who played a role of only 17 seconds in the film ‘Aaj’ in the year 1987, then no one knew that he would emerge as such a big personality today. However, very few people know about the hard work he put behind this 17 second role. Here we are talking about Akshay Kumar who made a name for himself as Khiladi Kumar of Bollywood. He was known as Rajeev Om Bhatia before dreaming of entering the film industry. He has struggled a lot for films.
Before entering films, Akshay Kumar was a martial arts instructor in Mumbai, before this he also worked as a peon in a travel company in Kolkata. Akshay Kumar was born on 9 September 1967 in Amritsar to a Punjabi family, although he was brought up in Delhi. Akshay has been interested in acting and martial arts since his childhood, for which he started training from an early age.
Work as a waiter and peon
Akshay has also been to Bangkok, where he learned ‘Muay Thai’ and also earned a black belt in Taekwondo. During the same time, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant called Metro Guest House, where his starting salary was only Rs 1,500. Akshay Kumar’s story changed when a martial arts student in Mumbai suggested him to model. After this, first he changed his name from Rajeev to Akshay and then shot his portfolio. It is noteworthy that today he has built his house at the same place where his first photo shoot took place.

After a lot of hard work, he got the role of a karate trainer for 17 seconds in ‘Aaj’. She worked hard to try her luck in modeling, later getting an offer to do a ramp walk in Bangalore, for which she had to catch a 6 o’clock flight. Akshay starts thinking 6 am 6 pm, due to which he misses his flight. His mistake was termed as unprofessionalism. After this he began visiting Nataraj Studios, where Akshay met Narendra, the makeup artist of Pramod Chakraborty’s company, who showed his photo to filmmaker Pramod. Pramod liked Akshay’s photo so much that he signed him for the lead role in his upcoming film ‘Deedar’ and even gave him a check of Rs 5000.
The ‘flowers and thorns’ disappeared due to demand
Akshay also went to audition for Rajesh Khanna’s film ‘Jai Shiv Shankar’, but he did not get a chance to audition there. He first signed ‘Deedar’, but his first release was ‘Saugandh’. Akshay was the first choice of the producers for ‘Phool Aur Kante’, but due to high demand, the role was given to Ajay Devgn. After this he acted in several films like ‘Khiladio Ka Khiladi’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and its sequel ‘Phir Hera Pheri’. After building a successful career, in 2001 he married Twinkle Khanna, daughter of actors Rajesh Khanna-Dimple Kapadia.
