Akash Ambani, chairman of the country’s largest telecom company, Reliance Jio, said on Tuesday that Indian users’ data should remain within the country. Ambani also advocated offering other incentives, including electricity, to Indian companies that want to set up data centers for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of ‘ITU WCSA 2024’ here, Ambani described AI as a revolutionary tool to bring about major changes in all sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture and manufacturing. He emphasized that AI is very important to achieve India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Why is AI important?

Ambani said in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that AI is very important to realize our dream of a developed India by 2047. Therefore, under his leadership, India should immediately adopt AI with utmost self-reliance. He said Reliance Jio is making every effort to bring the benefits of AI to all Indians everywhere, as it did in the case of mobile broadband. Ambani said that we are committed to bringing the benefits of AI to everyone by providing powerful AI models and services at affordable prices to everyone in India.

AI will change everything

Describing AI as a revolutionary tool, he said it will completely change every aspect of life, every aspect of society and every sector of the economy. Citing the possibility of changes in sectors such as manufacturing, education and agriculture, he said this will usher in a new era of efficiency. On the power and potential of Artificial Intelligence, he said that AI has the potential to completely transform the manufacturing sector, including SMEs.

Ambani further said that Jio is laying the foundation for a national AI infrastructure. The scale and pace of multilingual data production in India will increase rapidly. He said we request the government to expedite the redesign of the draft Data Center Policy 2020. Indian data should remain only in Indian data centres. He suggested that Indian companies looking to set up AI and machine learning data centers should get all necessary incentives, including energy consumption.
