Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar
Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is facing political challenges after its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Now he is about to get a big shock. Many party leaders are resigning and joining the Nationalist Congress Party led by senior leader Sharad Pawar. Among the breakaway leaders, Pimpri-Chinchwad unit president Ajit Gawane and student leader Yash Sane Sharad will join the group. Apart from this, Ajit Pawar’s supporter Vilas Lande and 15 former corporators will also accompany Sharad Pawar.
According to reports, everyone will join Sharad Pawar’s house Modi Bagh in Pune. Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar will also be present. Ajit Gawan says he resigned yesterday and today we will meet all former councilors from other assembly constituencies. He will decide his future strategy based on that. Pawar Sahib will take his blessings and a decision will be taken together.
Sharad Pawar has already warned
He alleged that since 2017 BJP has taken over the PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) and development has stalled. The resignation comes amid speculation that some leaders from the Ajit Pawar camp are keen to go back to Sharad Pawar’s fold ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections. Earlier in June, Sharad Pawar had said that the door was closed to those who undermined his party, while leaders who could strengthen the organization without damaging its image would be welcomed. Ajit Pawar’s party contested four Lok Sabha seats in the state and won only one in Raigad, while his uncle’s group won eight seats in Maharashtra. Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in the state later this year.
Ajit Pawar broke with NCP
Last year in 2023, Ajit Pawar rebelled against NCP founder Sharad Pawar and split the party into two. Ajit Pawar joined the BJP alliance. He was made Deputy CM in Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s government. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the ruling coalition Mahayutti with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP won 17 of the state’s 48 Lok Sabha seats.
