Jamaat-e-Islami rally in Kulgam

Assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Independent candidates backed by the banned Jamaat-e-Islami are also set to contest the elections. Under this, Jamaat-e-Islami organized a huge rally in Bugam area of ​​South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, where its candidates promised to talk about Kashmir, Kashmiris and political prisoners. Along with this, the organization assured the security of the Kashmiri Pandits along with their return home.

Thousands of people participated in this rally held in Bugam area for the first time since 1987. Due to the ban, Jamaat-e-Islami stayed away from the elections held in Jammu and Kashmir for the last three decades. He is contesting elections after decades. He demonstrated his power by rallying. Meanwhile, people in the rally appeared very excited and shouted slogans loudly.

‘The crowd is our strength’

During the show of strength, JEI candidate Syar Ahmed Reshi said that there is a need to fill the void created by regional political parties in the state. He said that fingers will be pointed at us and we will be criticized but the crowd that has gathered is our strength and this is the truth.

Another candidate Ejaz Mir said that if he wins the election, he will serve the people of Kashmir without any compromise. He said, ‘We will not promote corruption. We will work transparently. We will talk about Kashmir and Kashmiris. We will represent the aspirations of the people in the assembly.

Jamaat-e-Islami is banned

In fact, candidates fielded by the JEI are contesting as independent candidates with the hope that if elected, they will fight for the lifting of the JEI ban. In February this year, the Union Home Ministry extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967 for the next five years. JEI was first declared an “unlawful organisation” by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 28 February 2019.
