Recently, the Senate elections were held at Mumbai University, in which Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Aditya Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, won a bumper victory. Yuva Sena won all 10 seats. The election results came on Friday. The Mumbai University elections were a direct contest between the Yuva Sena and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), in which the ABVP was badly defeated.

Aditya Thackeray’s Yuva Sena will celebrate its bumper win at Matoshree today at 12 noon.

55 percent voting was done

Elections for 10 seats were held on September 24 after the notification of the Bombay High Court. Out of 10 Senate seats, 5 seats were reserved and 5 seats were open and a total of 28 candidates contested the elections. This time around 55 percent voting was done. Like the elections held in 2018, Yuva Sena did well in this election too. The Yuva Sena was led by Uddhav Thackeray’s son and former minister Aditya Thackeray.

who won

The names of the winning candidates include Pradeep Sawant, Milind Satam, Alpesh Bhoir, Param Yadav, Shashikant Zore, Sheetal Devrukhkar, Dhanraj Kohchde, Mayur Panchal and Sneha Gawli. Yuva Sena is a strong candidate here since the undivided Shiv Sena. The Mumbai University Senate elections were pending for more than two years and were also mired in controversies due to political developments, after which elections were held once again in 2018, in which the Yuva Sena emerged victorious.

Aditya Thackeray congratulated the candidates

Yuva Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray congratulated all the winning candidates. He said that this was possible only because of the hard work of everyone and the support of the voters. Elections to urban and local bodies in the state are not being held due to fear of defeat. He also thanked the Bombay High Court for ordering the election.

Why are Senate elections important?

The Senate is the highest decision-making and monitoring body of Mumbai University. Which is represented by teachers, principal, college management as well as registered graduates. Student council elections are banned in Maharashtra. Contestants for MU Senate elections should be students of the respective universities and should be separate from Delhi University or Jawaharlal Nehru University student union elections.
