The former professor spoke about his days in Nagpur Jail
A former Delhi University professor has accused Nagpur’s Central Jail of negligence. Yes. N. Saibaba was accused of alleged links with Maoists. He was sent to jail in this case. His health deteriorated during his stay in Nagpur Jail. It is alleged that he was paralyzed on the left side of his body, though it was not treated in time. He was neglected in this matter for 9 months.
He was given pain killers, but was not taken to the hospital in time. Saibaba was arrested by Maharashtra Police from Delhi in May 2014 for alleged links with Maoists. Saibaba alleged that during his arrest, the Maharashtra police dragged him in a wheelchair, which caused severe injuries to his hands and also affected his nervous system. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, but was acquitted by the Bombay High Court.
The family members were also threatened
The professor alleged that the policemen also badly threatened his family members. He said the police arrested him and put him in jail to suppress his voice. He said he was even threatened by the authorities to throw him in jail if he didn’t stop speaking out. Saibaba told about Nagpur Jail that he could not walk due to polio. He was imprisoned in a broken wheelchair.
He was convicted in a subordinate court of Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district for alleged links with Maoists. After which Saibaba was confined in Nagpur Central Jail since 2017. He was earlier in jail from 2014 to 2016 and later got bail.
