West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has opened up about the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata. He said, whatever you do to me, do not defame Bengal. He accused the Left and BJP of collusion in this and said that the central government was also helping. He appealed to the striking doctors to withdraw their strike and agitation.
He said, abuse me as much as you want. People are running a smear campaign on social media, but don’t insult mother Bengali. He said that the Modi government did not get majority. She is running on the support of her colleagues. If any of them withdraws support, his government will fall.
She said I was in Jhargram when this (RG car incident) happened. I was on my way when I spoke to the CP. I also spoke to the parents of the victim and assured them that the police will investigate and I want him to get death penalty. I stand by what I said from day one. I went to his house. Throughout the night I kept a minute by minute grasp of the situation. Police officials also took away the dead body of the victim and a thorough investigation like DNA, CCTV footage, sample testing – everything was done and the killer was arrested within 12 hours.

He said you have to give time for any investigation. I had set a deadline of Sunday. You cannot take action against anyone without proper investigation. I respect both senior and junior doctors. I cannot arrest anyone without proper investigation.
Mamata Banerjee said that many heinous crimes took place during the tenure of Buddhadev Bhattacharya. We will fully follow the guidelines of the High Court and we are cooperating with the CBI. The police had already summoned 34 people and more were on the list, but the High Court intervened and handed over the case to the CBI. One of the best teams of Kolkata Police was investigating the case. Instead of politicizing the issue, we should be sensitive to the family.
