A water tank built in Dhampur village
Even after 75 years of independence, the people of Amar Shaheed Veer Abdul Hamid’s village in Gazipur, Uttar Pradesh, are forced to drink contaminated water. To solve this problem, construction of water tanks was started in the year 2016 under Har Ghar Jal Yojana. A water tank was constructed in 2019, after which water connections were provided to people, though water supply from this tank has not yet started. The villagers have now appealed to Union Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister Swatantra Dev Singh regarding the problem.
According to people living in Dhampur village, the population is around 2500. The people of this village have been quenching their thirst from underground water since the beginning. Since then, the arsenic level in the water has started increasing. In such a situation, under the Har Ghar Jal Yojana, a plan was made to supply treated water here in the year 2016. Under this scheme, the work of laying water tanks and laying water lines to every house was started. This work was also completed in the year 2019 and most of the people of the village also took the connection. However, this tank has not yet been commissioned.
Another zone is being lined up
Aniket Singh of the village said that a memorandum was given several times to DM Gazipur regarding this. Now Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister Swatantra Dev Singh have also been requested to find a solution to the problem by tweeting. However, there is no response from them yet. On the other hand, Jal Nigam Executive Engineer Villager Mohammad Hashim said that the water supply plan has been made by dividing the village into two zones. In which the work of one zone has been completed, the pipeline is being laid in the other zone. Soon the water supply will be started by testing the line.
