Bihar has achieved a unique feat. Bihar is performing well in GST collection. Based on its performance, Bihar has made its place among the top five states in the country. Commercial Tax Department Secretary cum State Tax Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh said this in a conference organized in the capital Patna last Wednesday.
Sanjay Kumar Singh said that before the implementation of GST, Bihar’s tax collection in 2017-18 was only Rs 17,236 crore, which has now increased. In the year 2023-24, the rate of tax collection will increase to Rs. 38,198 crores, which is 122 percent more. He also said that till the month of August, as per the target, about 80% tax has been collected.
Bihar in top-5 with 18% growth rate
Bihar has joined the top five states in the country with an 18% growth rate in GST collections in 2023-24. This growth rate is five percent higher than the national growth rate of 13 percent. He said that a composition scheme has been implemented for tax payers, whereby traders operating up to a certain turnover will now have to pay annual GST only once in the entire year.
The functioning of the department was done online
Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the entire department has been brought online. There is no obligation to come to the office under any circumstances. If there is a problem, there is also a complaint and redressal form, which can be done through email. Giving important information, he said that the one-time settlement scheme introduced before GST for settlement of unpaid taxes has been extended.
The scheme has been extended for the next six months. People who have not yet settled their tax cases can settle them by depositing only the principal amount.
