Kangana Ranaut in ‘Emergency’
No decision could be taken in the Bombay High Court today regarding the release of film actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s latest film Emergency, but the High Court has come down hard on the Central Board of Film Certification. The court has asked the CBFC to take a decision on the emergency certificate by September 25. Commenting strongly, the court said that fear of lawlessness cannot curb one’s creative freedom.
The High Court said that there should be no restriction on freedom of expression. The board cannot refuse to grant a certificate to a film as it may cause law and order problems. The court also said that without watching the entire film, how can it be said that it may spread anarchy.
Court’s displeasure at CBFC’s stand
A division bench of Justice BP Kolabawala and Justice Firdosh Pooniwala also asked the CBFC whether it thinks the people of this country are so innocent that they believe everything shown in the film. The court expressed strong displeasure at the Central Board of Film Certification’s stance and asked that a decision on granting the film a certificate be taken by September 25.
