On January 19, 1937, Howard Hughes made history with a record flight from Los Angeles to Newark
It’s wild to think about how much aviation has changed since then. Hughes was a real pioneer in the field, and this flight was just one of his many incredible achievements. He really pushed the limits of what was possible in the air.
And speaking of January 19, it’s also a day when a lot of interesting things happened in history. For instance, in 1853, Verdi’s opera “Il Trovatore” premiered in Rome. Plus, in 1942, a German submarine sank the Canadian liner RMS Lady Hawkins, which was a tragic event.
Today, we also celebrate some birthdays! Tippi Hedren is 95, and Dolly Parton is 79. Quite the lineup, right? It’s a day filled with history and milestones, and Hughes’ flight is definitely one of the highlights.
