Why does lightning strike?

According to scientists, discharge of large amount of electricity in the atmosphere at high speed is called lightning. In fact, when lightning is released from the atmosphere, a small amount of lightning also falls on Earth. In 1872, scientist Benjamin Franklin first explained the true cause of lightning between clouds. He said that clouds contain small water particles, which become charged due to air friction. Some clouds acquire a positive charge, while some acquire a negative charge. When both types of charged clouds collide, millions of volts of electricity are generated. Sometimes the electricity generated in this way is so much that it reaches the earth.
